System Developer – DevelopmentThe teacher Per Westerfur chose MTEK - now works with his former students: "That lights my fire"
Per Westerfur, 50, has worked at MTEK almost four years and is one of the brains behind the MBrain system. That he ended up here is not a coincidence.
Sure, he has worked as a developer for many years and, among other things, built business systems for retail. But it was when he changed career to become a teacher that he took the first step towards MTEK.
“I taught at the technology program at Woxgym. But after a few years realized that I missed programming".
MTEK has an extended collaboration with the Woxgym high school. Part of the classes are located at MTEK's head office in Alfta, where the students are taught production technology and leadership.
"In that way, I get to work with both programming and teaching in the same package".
Not only that. Almost half of the employees at MTEK come from Woxgym and many have had Per Westerfur as a teacher.
"If MTEK had not found these students with this capacity and ambitions and given them jobs, then they would have moved from the municipality. It is an important part of our role in the local community.”
Per has taken on an informal mentoring role for several of the younger new employees.
"But I don't see them as old students. They are colleagues and now we learn from each other".
Per Westerfur really thrives in that role.
“The dynamic here is really rewarding and productive. What we do is quite complex and there are high set goals. That really lights my fire.”
